Goodness of the Lord – Mercy, Goodness, Courage, and Faith in the Land of the living! Goodness of the Lord in the Land of the Living, a great phrase. It is one that many might mistake for those living in America with no threat of violence or trouble against a believer in our Lord. Yet as we look at this phrase, we find the phrase “I had fainted” which is connected to “unless I had believed”! This does not mean the writer had no faith. For it is connected to the previous verse where he faces a formidable enemy. But the phrase “I had fainted” was put in by the translators and it is agreeable to the meaning of the verse.

The writer faced an enemy who were giving a false witness about him. Indeed, they seem to have gotten the upper hand because he did have faith; but it is being sorely tested. This psalm is by David and indeed we could put an affirmation that David was tested repeatedly. He was pursued by his enemies. Yet in this section we find him being sorely tested and even threatened to the point that through it all he believed God would uphold him in this trial. Even though his enemies were making threats against his life.
What was the ground of this confidence he does not say, but he had the fullest belief that this would be so. He may have had some special assurance of it, or he may have had a deep internal conviction of it, sufficient to calm his mind; but whatever was the source of this confidence it was that which sustained him.
He saw beyond the trouble to the Lord. He saw that this was his strength. To believe, despite the issues before him. No matter what they did or said; he believed that the Lord would make a way for him. The Lord by allowing him to live would yet let him see the tokens or favor given by the Lord to him on earth. No matter what the enemy threatened or did, he believed that in the land of the living it would be the Lord, His God who would make sure he could continue living and enjoying the blessing of his God.

A primitive root; properly to build up or support; to foster as a parent or nurse; figuratively to render (or be) firm or faithful, to trust or believe, to be permanent or quiet; morally to be true or certain; once (in Isa_30:21; by interchange for H541) to go to the right hand: – hence assurance, believe, bring up, establish, + fail, be faithful (of long continuance, stedfast, sure, surely, trusty, verified), nurse, (-ing father), (put), trust, turn to the right.

However, having faith is not easy. We must believe, which is opposite to the carnal nature of man. But we know carnal people have faith in many other things like money, cars, houses, lands, armies, and much more. But we speak of a supernatural faith which we use in this natural world we live in. We are comforted, guided, and nurtured by the Lord’s spirit. We see people with religious adherence all over the world to many different Gods. But to the Christian believer in Yeshua, Jesus Christ and to the glory of our Father and great God; there is only one savior between God and man. There is only one door, one faith, and one redemptive bond for all people. That is through the Lord’s atonement on Calvary. It is here that the devil and his minions; along with principalities, and human powers which make war against anyone who defies them. For the Christian, all hell unleashes its fury on believers daily. That is why even the youngest to the oldest believer, as well as the newest in Christ can “resist the devil and he will flee from you” James 4:6 KJV.
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Note in these passages that God resists the Proud. More importantly though, God gives grace, or his favor to the humble, therefore submit to him. You do this by drawing near in prayer, worship, scripture reading, and meditating on the word. As you do draw nigh in earnest, he will draw near to you. His Spirit will bear witness with your spirit that you are a child of God. This is where you find within the Word of God that sword to use against the enemy. Through Christ Jesus your faith, hope, endurance, joy, and redemption is united to Christ Jesus and His Father. This is our victory that overcame the world. It is the blood of atonement, calvary’s victory, and the Lamb of God who died for the Sins of World. The Lamb of God was resurrected as the Almighty, the Alpha and Omega, and the Resurrection and the Life. No power, person, devil, or nation can take you out of the hands of the Lord.
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Today we have the devil making war against believers worldwide. Whether you have a building to meet in or not, know this; the church is not the materials like bricks and stones that make up your church. The church is the believer in Christ Jesus. That believer is the “called out one”! There are multitudes of these “called out ones.” They are the overcomers in Christ. Whether we live or die, we are the Lords. But know this, as Paul mentions in Acts chapter fourteen and verse twenty-two as he was exhorting the believers to continue in faith said, “we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God -Acts 14:22 KJV.”
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

In all this we have the victory daily, even amidst trials and troubles. Yet our faith and the Lord can sustain us through his grace. His grace is sufficient for us. His Word is eternal. Today we find the world in turmoil, nations in conflict and division. Radical Islam is making war against the Christians worldwide. Governments of men like North Korea, China, Iran, India, Afghanistan, and many others are also making war against the believers in Jesus Christ. In America today we find Christians targeted and mocked for their faith more than ever before. We can see the devil smiling as this nation slides into an immoral mass of unbelievers. No doubt, the perilous times and the wickedness are taking over societies in mass. But in all this we find people coming to the Lord as never before. The war is here, and, in the end, we win through Christ no matter what the devil and the nations do.
Howbeit, I reflect again on the phrase the Goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. I also like the phrase “I had fainted”. For if I have no hope in the Lord, indeed I would faint and drift away into oblivion. But I don’t faint for the Lord’s goodness to his sons and daughters on this planet is sure and certain. There will be a sunrise tomorrow and a sunset. The moon and stars are still there, and earth is still moving ahead in its courses. Life goes on and as it does, I intend to believe firmly in the Goodness of the Lord in the land of the Living.
I personally believe and practice this daily. I will not open the door to tomorrow with fear, but faith. I believe that no matter what happens the Lord will make a way. No trouble I face will overcome me for the Lord will make a way. He will make a way for me and my family. In the end, no matter what occurs; I believe the Lord will reveal his goodness to me and his family. For the Lord is my helper and God, I will not fear what man can do to me. Know this in today’s world, your body may shake, tears could flow, death might whisper in your ear, and the stench of decay from plague might surround you. I’m convinced the Lord will make a way for all who call upon him. It is possible to see the goodness and provision of the Lord in the land of the living.
I repeat here these words: Goodness, Lord, Land, Living. These words give hope to the hopeless. It creates faith, makes a path to victory, and sets you apart from the crowd. In society we face troubles, but in the Lord, we put on the armor and faith of the Lord and walk with courage in this land of the living. We must have hope to see the very “goodness of the Lord in this land we live in!’
Moreover, it is good to ask ourselves these questions! Has the Sun been removed? Is the Sky missing? The Earth destroyed? Go outside and look around, do not even the birds and animals enjoy this day? Have you become so consumed with negativity from the poison of society you cannot see the Goodness or Hope for the next day? Is God, the Lord in charge of all and Lord overall? I say he is. Today go outside and see for yourself then believe. The Psalmist says, “I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the Land of the Living” – Psalm 27:13 KJV.” There is hope for the believer in America or wherever you live! But there is also redemptive hope for those who have not called upon the Lord. So do so today. I shall rise in the Lord on the wings of Eagles and believe that no matter what occurs, the Lord Jesus [Yeshua] will make a way for me and my family. No matter the day, the time, or the trouble that may come!
As I write this, Afghanistan comes to mind along with the ALG churches and Mideast bible ministry, along with believers worldwide in the most persecuted areas. We cover the persecuted church weekly on our broadcasts. You are not alone, even though; at times you believe you are all by yourself.
In the depth of persecution, which I see. My vantage is from here; but my heart is with you and my faith is for you. I believe the Lord will make a way for the church worldwide, no matter what.
Through signs, miracles, and deliverances; look for them. In Afghanistan, don’t let politics, America betraying you, or the Taliban defeat you. However, through the Biden administration the Taliban is now the holder of the largest American made and provided weaponry. They seek out Christians to get rid of them. They are the landlords of Afghanistan. Yet in the entire plan of the Lord, all believers have overcame already through Christ Jesus. You are precious in the eyes of the Lord, and he says to you, “My child, you are mine; more precious than anyone can know. Have faith, be faithful, and look to me, the author and finisher of your faith.” “I am the Lord, is there anything too hard for me?” Read Revelation 22 KJV.
